The greenhouse — original design

During the design process, the greenhouse evolved from a standard commercial growing house into a bespoke Danish design. Once we realised that a fully customised greenhouse would cost about the same, the possibilities opened up.

Instead of a symmetrical greenhouse, we now have an off-centre ridge: the house turns towards the sun.

Sliding doors on the upper level make it easy to ventilate the greenhouse quickly if it gets too warm. They also open onto a balcony or a view.

The simple Danish design gives us clean lines rather than the busier structure of some commercial greenhouses. In this case, large I-beams give a cleaner appearance than a greater number of smaller roof trusses.
