Building in winter is slow. Everything takes longer and becomes more complicated and expensive. We have made some progress, though. The last few days have felt like spring, even if winter made a brief comeback on Sunday. There have been some lovely days on site.
My brother Tomas has helped with masonry and concrete, and the service building and eastern wall are beginning to rise. We are about a metre up, with nearly two metres still to build and pour. We are busy both doing the work and making sure materials arrive so we do not get stuck. Regular jobs have to fit in too. It will be difficult to be ready for an April greenhouse delivery; we will see as it gets closer.
Besides worrying about the schedule, we are several hundred thousand kronor over budget. We will have to work out how to solve that. Anyone feel like contributing? 🙂 We joke that we will end up living in a caravan inside the greenhouse. The Riksbank's move to negative interest rates, which weakened the krona, has not helped when we need to import SEK 2.5 million worth of materials.
I have not had time to keep every part moving, so some things are behind. The final greenhouse plans are being settled so production can begin. I am also looking for an electrician at a reasonable price. Planning the water and wastewater pipes in the slab has begun, but is not far along. A manufacturer is quoting for the slab. Anders Solvarm has drawn the first version of the water-cycle system. We have not heard from the house manufacturer for a while, although only a few details remain before ordering.
A couple of photographs:
I am modifying the buried air pipe so we can choose between drawing in outside air and air from the greenhouse. Sometimes it might be useful to recirculate greenhouse warmth and warm the air a little further before returning it. It is mainly an experiment, but we might as well install two inlets before pouring concrete. There is plenty of snow to clear before work can start.

This photograph is a few weeks old, with two courses of blocks in place. We are now approaching five courses, but need to pour more footings before continuing. Building the wall in sections is awkward: reinforcement in every course projects into the unfinished sections and gets in the way of the next work.
